Caravan Flight Controls & Troubleshooting
Explore the named components, make a prediction, then connect the supplied result to the system. This workshop adds coached practice alongside the course handbook and assessed lab.
Trace mechanical roll control and powered flap follow-up
The Caravan control wheel moves the aileron and spoiler linkage mechanically. The flaps use electric motors, but their movement still depends on a shared mechanical transmission. Follow the command, the moving connection and the actual surface response before interpreting a stopped or incorrectly moving system.
Two separate control paths: mechanical roll transmission and electrical flap drive with mechanical follow-up.
Recorded state: before the supplied change
Green outlines identify components named in the selected exercise record; they do not indicate a healthy component.
Named connections and what each arrow means
- Control wheel and fuselage cable loop → Wing cable loop, bellcranks and pushrodsPhysical relationship: Fuselage loop moves cabin-top and wing-loop mechanisms
- Wing cable loop, bellcranks and pushrods → Ailerons and linked spoilersPhysical relationship: Local pushrods move ailerons and linked spoilers
- Flap lever and NORM/STBY controls → Switch actuator, relays and two motorsInformation / signal: Selected mode and direction provide the permitted motor command
- Switch actuator, relays and two motors → Common actuator, cross-wing rod and flapsPhysical relationship: Motor rotates the shared screw-and-tube actuator
- Common actuator, cross-wing rod and flaps → Switch actuator, relays and two motorsPhysical relationship: Actual-position follow-up opens the normal command at selection
Control wheel and fuselage cable loop
Transmit the pilot’s roll input to the cabin-top bellcrank.
Supplied record: Counterclockwise input pending
How it works with the rest
The control wheel turns a quadrant that drives the fuselage cable loop. This lower-tension loop reaches the cabin-top bellcrank, where the separate wing loop continues the movement. Wheel movement alone does not establish downstream cable routing or surface direction.
What the evidence must show
Follow the physical input into both cable loops; record clockwise or counterclockwise movement from the pilot’s normal viewpoint.
Selected: Control wheel and fuselage cable loop
Follow the change through the system.
Fictional record FC29-1 uses an identified Caravan roll-control installation under the complete applicable ground-check conditions. Controls and locks are correctly prepared, flaps are UP, and the linkage is free enough to move; correct cable routing and motion sense are being evaluated. The recorded comparison turns the control wheel counterclockwise from neutral. Predict the correctly rigged sense before revealing the actual observation. No angle, cable tension or force limit is supplied.
Before the recorded change
The control wheel is initially neutral. The named setup is supplied. Actual left-aileron response to the counterclockwise input is hidden.
Next observation
Choose your prediction before revealing the supplied result.

Course applicability and study references
Cessna 208/208B arrangements described in supplied D2078 Revision 42. The flap scenes specifically identify 208B5800, within the 208B5000-and-on motor-selection branch. Earlier motor logic and travel-table groupings are different; actual modifications and installed equipment select the applicable tasks. These fictional supplied records and original concept diagrams illustrate relationships, not installation geometry, a maintenance sequence or aircraft-operation authority. Practice remains separate from existing graded work and learner records.
