SM-101 sheet metal: inspect the training joint

Follow a fictional training coupon from released drawing through layout, hole preparation and exact fastener selection. Reveal evidence only after predicting what should matter. This optional practice preserves the existing course lab and assessment requirements.

Workshop dependencies: workflow arrows connect requirements and evidence; they do not authorize a physical repair or replace the released operation plan.

Green outlines identify components named in the selected exercise record; they do not indicate a healthy component.

Component purpose

Released drawing, BOM and notes

The released drawing identifies units, revision, material, geometry and acceptance requirements. A bill of materials (BOM) connects each item balloon to a complete part identity and quantity.

How it works with the rest

For this fictional kit, Rev C controls. Item 3 calls for six MS20470AD4-5 solid rivets. The item number 3 is a lookup key, not the diameter or a complete rivet part number.

What the evidence must show

Read specific notes with the views and title block. Note 4 states a .3125-inch minimum center-to-finished-edge distance; a general location tolerance cannot reduce that stated minimum.

Exercise brief · supplied training conditions

Fictional SM-101 Rev C coupon: width 3.000 inches; Note 4 requires at least .3125 inch from every hole center to the nearest finished edge. A proposed right-hand center is moved from X=2.625 to X=2.720. The exercise isolates right-edge margin; other requirements are not declared passed.

Before the recorded change

Move the right-hand center from X=2.625 to X=2.720 on a 3.000-inch-wide coupon. Predict the right-edge margin change.

The 3.000 × 1.500-inch coupon, .3125-inch edge minimum, .128–.132-inch hole range and MS20470AD4-5 requirement are fictional kit requirements. They are not general aircraft limits. Existing workshop, independent review, final and completion requirements remain unchanged.

Original learning diagrams and supplied training records explain the stated relationships. Current aircraft-effective instructions and authorization govern actual maintenance.
